One of the key contributing factors to creating the space for innovation, breakthrough ideas and substantive performance can be counter-intuitive to most organizational cultures.
Many cultures are dominated by fear of failure, which usually paralyzes breakthrough results. Letting go of the fear of failure for yourself and allowing for potential periodic failure for others contributes greatly to a high performance culture. In organizations, this necessitates creating an environment where this is not only accepted, it is expected from time to time. When failure occurs, it is used as an opportunity for authentic debrief, learning and then moving forward with no finger pointing.
This culture should be created within the context of a clear longer term vision and strategy and commonly understood boundaries. In this manner, risk is managed responsibly while still leaving room for innovation.
People who achieve extraordinary things in this world rarely consider failure as an obstacle. When it occurs, they persevere, using it as fuel to challenge themselves to find solutions and achieve breakthrough success.
